Yes, you read that correctly. The timeless, awe-inspiring, childhood throwback that is the Nickelodeon series iCarly will be coming back to a television or phone near you! The iCarly reboot is currently being filmed, and some shocking news has been revealed to fans within the past few weeks. From new characters to plotlines, here’s everything you need to know about the iCarly Reboot!
Nathan Kress (Freddie Benson) revealed in February 2021 that new characters would appear on the iCarly reboot. He told the media that “the casting process is in full swing so there’s going to be chemistry reads in the next couple weeks for the new characters that we’re adding.” While we are unsure of who these new characters will be, there’s one thing certain: Jannette McCurdy (Sam Puckett) will not be returning. After quitting acting and expressing embarrassment by her work on iCarly and Sam & Cat. Producers decided not to recast the role of Sam, but Carly will have a new bestie for the reboot. Miranda Cosgrove and Jerry Trainor gave the scoop that “a lot has happened to the characters during the almost 10 years since fans last saw them.” Many dedicated fans were devastated to hear about Sam not returning to iCarly, however. Trainor, who did not address McCurdy’s leaving of the show, explained “the three of us got back together and it was kind of like riding a bike.” Cosgrove added that “it feels kind of crazy. We did the first table read about a week or so ago and it was kind of insane. Like, just getting everybody back together again and it was really fun.” Carly’s new best friend and roommate will be named Harper, and played by Laci Mosley, while Freddie will have a stepdaughter played by Jaidyn Triplett.
So, what can we expect? While the actors and producers on the reboot have not given too much away, we can expect new characters, the absence of the beloved character Sam, and more funny banter from the old characters. Nevertheless, we can’t wait for the show to hit streaming services and to binge-watch it!
