For four months, the JMM Mock Trial Team has been preparing for the Regional Tournament on February 8th. They put in countless hours of effort, averaging out to an hour every day. With help from two attorneys and Ms. Burda, the team ended up compiling a stellar case. They did all of this with nine people, three of whom took on double roles to fill in the required twelve positions.
The Regional Tournament has four rounds, each lasting two hours, in which the teams must compete. Our Mock Trial Team ended up winning one out of their four rounds (although that one round was a by, where there is no opponent). Despite this, the team got valuable experience and had a blast throughout their season.
Mock Trial is a fantastic experience that everybody should try. There are no requirements to join; everybody is welcome. You will be able to gain knowledge on court procedures, learn how to create a compelling case, act out one of the characters, make friends, and have a fun time! If you have any interest in Mock Trial, talk to Ms. Burda at the beginning of the school year.
