Golden Globes Recap

One of the first award shows of the year, the Golden Globes award the best Hollywood actors and actresses along with the best films and shows of the year. Now let’s get into some of the most notable wins of the night. History was made by Awkwafina when she won Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical as a person of Asian descent for her performance in The Farewell. The show Fleabag won Best TV Comedy. Brad Pitt made an appearance for his win as Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for Drama. His respective film, Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood won Best Screenplay. Later that night, Tom Hanks won the Cecil B. DeMille Award for Achievement in Film and Ellen DeGeneres won the Carol Burnett Award for Achievement in Television. Michelle Williams won Best Actress in a Television Drama for her performance in Fosse/Verdon. Joaquin Phoenix took the stage for his Best Actor in a Film, Drama win for Joker. Sam Mendes’ war epic 1917 with surprise wins at the Golden Globes, snagging both Best Picture, Drama, and Best Director for Mendes. The movie Parasite won Best Foreign Film. Laura Dern won Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the film Marriage Story. A huge snub for female directors occurred when none were nominated despite the fact that movies like, Greta Gerwig’s Little Women, Lulu Wang’s The Farewell and Lorene Scafaria’s Hustlers, were among the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful films of the year. This years show had some historic wins as well as some surprising wins and snubs. We’ll have to wait and see how the Oscars, also an award show for best actors, actresses, films and shows to see if the wins and snubs continue.
