The 62nd Grammy Awards! 

The 62nd annual Grammy Awards are just around the corner, and will be airing on January 26th, 2020! In case you didn’t know, let me catch you up to speed: A Grammy is an award presented by the Recording Academy to recognize achievements and celebrate the music industry. The annual ceremony features performances by prominent artists in pop culture and the presentation of said awards. There are a variety of categories that certain artists can be nominated for, like pop, rap, hip hop, alternative, jazz, rock, R&B, and many more! So here are the artists nominated for a Grammy in 2020: 


In the General Field of awards, the Record of the Year award’s nominees are HEY MA, by Bon Iver; Bad Guy, by Billie Eilish; 7 Rings, by Ariana Grande; Hard Place, by H.E.R., Talk, by Khalid; Old Town Road, by Lil Nas X featuring Billy Ray Cyrus; Truth Hurts, by Lizzo; and finally Sunflower, by Post Malone and Swae Lee. For Album of the Year, I, I by Bon Iver; Norman F***ing Rockwell!, by Lana Del Rey; When We All Fall Asleep, Where do We Go? by Billie Eilish; Thank U, Next, by Ariana Grande; I Used to Know Her, by H.E.R.; 7, by Lil Nas X; CUZ I LOVE YOU, by Lizzo; and Father of the Bride, by Vampire Weekend are all nominated. Finally, in terms of the Best New Artist, Black Pumas, Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X, Lizzo, Maggie Rogers, Rosalia, Tank, and the Bangas, and Yola are all nominees. 


Moving into the ‘Pop’ section of the Grammy awards, the Best Performances nominations are Spirit, by Beyonce; Bad Guy, by Billie Eilish; 7 Rings, by Ariana Grande; Truth Hurts, by Lizzo; You Need to Calm Down, by Taylor Swift; Sucker, by the Jonas Brothers; Old Town Road, by Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus; and finally, Senorita by Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello. In terms of best Pop Vocal Album, Ariana Grande, Beyonce, Billie Eilish, Ed Sheeran, and Taylor Swift were all nominated. 


In the R&B categories, the Best Urban Contemporary Album nominees are Apollo XXI, by Steve Lacy; Cuz I Love You, by Lizzo; Overload, by Georgia Anne Muldrow; Saturn, by NAO; and Being Human In Public, by Jessie Reyez. 1123, by BJ The Chicago Kid; Painted, by Lucky Daye; Ella Mai, by Ella Mai; Paul, by PJ Morton; and Ventura, by Anderson Paak, are all nominations for the Best R&B Album. 


There are certainly far more nominations specific to music genre; from country to Latin, the Grammys represent a wide spectrum of music. Performances, as well as the award show will be aired on January 26th, so don’t forget to tune in!
