In a world where magicians exist, and creatures such as dragons roam the land, Simon Snow is destined for greatness. From a young age, he has been blessed with unspeakable powers that were meant to slay the Insidious Humdrum: a magic destroying creature from an unknown origin. However, that hasn’t been working out very well for him. He has next to no control over his magic, his girlfriend broke up with him, and Baz – his evil vampire roommate – is nowhere to be found. When Simon gets news of a nefarious plot, he is forced to reevaluate his views on who he can truly trust, and which side of the war he is truly on.
If you are a fantasy lover or part of the LGBTQ+ community, then you need to read this book. The plot is very well thought out, and the romance is endlessly endearing. One of the best things about this book is the banter and humor. There wasn’t a single moment while reading this novel when I wasn’t smiling (apart from the sad and tense parts), and that is largely due to the funny and lighthearted way the author writes. Interactions between characters are full of smart comments and debate, which is so much fun to read. But the thing that you’ll love most about this book is the characters. Each of them has their own unique personality that is amazingly developed. Overall, this is a spectacular book and a must-read for anyone who is even slightly interested.
