Have you heard of Spartan Youth Service? If you haven’t or just want more information, here are some great reasons YOU should participate. Spartan Youth Service or “SYS” is Memorial’s LARGEST volunteering club! Last year, we SURPASSED goals of 5500 hours of volunteering and 350 service events! Our goals this year are a bit more ambitious: 6000 hours, 400 service events and 250 members. With your help, we can achieve these goals!
Aside from those amazing facts, SYS has six great committees you can join! This year, we decided to change some things up with the committees, so keep reading to learn more. If you enjoy helping the elderly and want to work with the Adult Optimist club then you should join the Community/Optimist committee! Looking for something more environmentally friendly? Join the Green Team committee! If you want to make a difference by helping the homeless or nearly homeless, then the Helping Hands committee may be for you! Have you ever seen one of those cute cat videos that leave you wishing you could play with one? Want to meet some of those cute cats? Join Paws Fur A Cause! Our newest committee this year, Spartan Spirit, is responsible for planning Spirit Day, SYS’s biggest, annual, all-day volunteering event in April. Last but not least, Youth for Youth, is a great option for anyone who wants to help plan service projects related to youth in elementary schools in the Memorial attendance area! Remember, even if you have participated in SYS before, YOU MUST fill out a registration form. It is also important to remember that no matter which committee you are in, you can participate in ANY event from ANY committee in the club.
Our first meeting will be right after school (3:45) on Wednesday, September 11th, in the WISCONSIN NEIGHBORHOOD CENTER. Come to learn more about the club! There will also be snacks! Don’t forget to join the SYS Facebook page @ JMM SYS, and follow us on Instagram @jmm.sys to stay updated!
