Southern Border Crisis: No Action Despite Controversial Practices

694940094001_5763878841001_5763876617001-vs.jpgTensions over immigration policy at the southern border continue. Critics continue to call the treatment of immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers inhumane. Since last September, 11 people have died in custody, including five minors. Doctors in El Paso, Texas have also reported that they have not been allowed to give continuity of care which can be detrimental to a person’s health. Calls for an end to the migrant centers have been growing; according to a CNN poll, 62% of Americans disagree with how migrants are being treated. Protests around the country have also grown. The Inspector General has also issued a statement that overcrowding at some centers has become “dangerous.” According to the American Civil Liberties Union, nearly 1,000 children have been separated from their families since a judge ordered the U.S. to end such practices. Despite the volume of stories released over the summer, there have been no changes to the current policy.
