If you have ever eaten sushi, you may have had the tasty “crunch” on top. This deep-fried batter can retain heat after being removed from the fryer if it is not stored properly. If the heat gets to its flash point, BOOM. This summer, the Madison Fire Department announced that two fires from this spring at Sumo Steakhouse and Sushi Bar, as well as Takara Japanese Restaurant were both a result from such explosions. The total damages combined reached six figures. Three other similar incidents were reported in Wisconsin along with two others nation-wide. The Madison Fire Department urges anyone making the crunch not to leave it unattended.
