The Memorial boy’s basketball team played in their first game of the season
on Tuesday, November 20th. Heading into the season with high expectations from their fans and for themselves, they did not disappoint. After suffering a tough loss to Germantown in the quarterfinals of last year’s state tournament and losing 3 senior starters, the young team was ready to come out and show that they were ready to carry on the Memorial basketball tradition. After a pretty close game to start, they began to pull away after halftime and eventually won 57 to Middleton’s 47. Every member of the team except for three saw action in the game, and everyone played well.
The student section’s theme for the game was “Lax bro” a play off of a theme that the Middleton student section likes to use. It was the first time in recent years that the Memorial student section has used this theme, and it was a great success! To be a “lacrosse bro,” one needed to be wearing a mesh jersey, shorts, high socks, sandals, and an optional backwards-facing hat. Many students from Memorial showed up, and the enthusiasm was through the roof! Overall, the first game was a successful event that excited both the players and the fans for the season ahead and the possibility of a 10th straight trip to the State tournament at the Kohl Center.
