Memorial girls shined at state swimming this past weekend at WIAA division one state. The state team composed of 75% freshman stole a sixth place finish. Both the 200 free relay and 400 free relay did outstanding, even landing a spot on the podium. Jessi Ford, senior and captian pulled through as the anchor on the 400 free relay giving us a fourth place finish and having an incredible split of 51.5. The real excitement at the meet however, came from Beta Nelson of Verona, a freshman, who not only shattered the state record in the 100 backstroke and 50 freestyle but set the UW’s pool record, meaning she had a faster time then even any big ten college student to have ever swam in Wisconsin’s pool. Beta only 14 years old has a bright swimming future ahead of her. Congratulations to all of the Memorial Swimmin’ Women who competed this weekend! By Tasha Vernon
